Park Hyatt New York
About West 57th between Sixth and Seventh avenues, across the street from Carnegie Hall and just two blocks south of Central Park. It is a brief walk south to each of the activity of Times Square, and you are minutes from cabs and subways to whisk you uptown or down.
Style & personality
The One57 construction — a 1,005ft-tall ziggurat of light and dark glass — is a sight in itself, the tallest residential construction in NYC. The outdoor drama provides way to calm indoors: towering ceilings, polished marble floors, tall glass dividers, and calming cream and brown tones from the patterned rugs and plush sofas utilized by interior designers Yabu Pushelberg. About 300 modern works of art line the walls (or, in the instance of the glass cellphone over the pub, hang from the ceilings), curated at a partnership with neighboring MoMA . Our favorite space is your sun-drenched three-storey “aerie” on the top floors that houses a heated swimming pool where underwater speakers play with an exclusive soundtrack in Carnegie Hall.
Service & amenities
Rather than the typical check-in formalities, iPad-wielding employees in hot black Narciso Rodriguez dresses and matches whisk you from the floor level to the third-floor lobby, radioing ahead to receive your room key ready. Then they escort you to a room by means of a distinct fleet of lifts. The Onyx Room is a huge ballroom with luminous white-onyx walls which can host receptions for at least 200 individuals, as well as the 13,000 sq feet Asian-inspired Spa Nalai around the 25th floor provides artisanal remedies in six luxe rooms.
Standard rooms, in 475 sq feet, are one of the biggest in town, while Deluxes typical 530 sq feet: you’ve got space to ramble. All have floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views in the higher floors. Why don’t you go big with a north-facing Park Terrace package, with sweeping views from the large outside patio? Decor-wise, easy clean lines and vibrant white and gray tones predominate, but using modish touches like stone flooring, designer rugs, low-slung Scandinavian-style furnishings and built-in mirror bulbs. Following a day in town it is a joy to come home to a walk in rain shower and a marble soaking tub with touch Le Labo bathroom solutions. The 92 suites are for the big spenders.
Food & beverage
Executive chef Sebastien Archambault, previously of Washington DC’s famed Blue Duck Tavern, brings his talents into the resort’s culinary programme. Anticipate superb farm-fresh New American cuisine at flagship fine-dining restaurant The Back Room in One57, in which the raw bar incorporates a number of oyster and lobster alternatives, and the primary menu pops towards dry-aged steaks and lamb chops. Order classic cocktails with spins at the touch bar (below that glass installment) overlooking Carnegie Hall.
