Hotel Riu Palace Meloneras Gran Canaria
Riu Palace resorts are always situated by the shore however, the five-star Meloneras one is some 800 metres away from Maspalomas’ famous deserts. They are best attained from the back entrance to the resort, walking across the lavish Paseo Costa Canaria promenade. Without traffic, it is possible to arrive in the Riu Palace Meloneras 25 minutes after leaving the island’s airport.
Style & personality
As a result of some 2014 makeover, between three weeks, $30 million, 900 workmen and also an excess celebrity, the Riu Palace Meloneras appears brand new. The notion of Riu’s Palace resorts would be to wow guests with all the design — something they reach with a lobby which reimagines Bath’s Royal Crescent as one entity; substituting Georgian rock with a glistening bright crystal and white-paint combo. Inside, the look is neo baroque using a corridor of mirrors overlooked with giant chandeliers.
Service & amenities
My spouse and I had been treated to a free glass of cava at our five-year-old into a juice. My son chose to swim at the five bigger pools along with his dad than see the MiniClub. The gardens using their palm trees provided lots of colour and have been a joy to roam through. There is also a fitness center and Body Love health facility open from 7am to 8pm, with treatments which range from a 60-minute Aftersun Aloe Vera Massage at $57 (#43) into some 90-minute Detoxifying Algae Body Wrap costing $86 (#64).
There are 515 rooms in total, all with a terrace or balcony. We remained in 5038, a double, on the top floor of one of those resort’s villa-like two-story accommodation blocks, complete with sofabed for our own son. The big-screen LG tv had more German stations compared to English, Italian, and Spanish ones united. Colours matched the plot of this Riu Palace Meloneras: black, white, and charcoal. The texture was manly instead of macho. Toiletries and traveling accessories arrived courtesy of Paul Gauguin.
Food & beverage
There are four restaurants to pick from. Magnolia provides a buffet dinner and breakfast from 7.30am to 10.30am and 6pm to 9.30pm, while Ocean’s View serves snacks from 1pm to 3.30pm. We dined at Krystal, among those two Riu Palace Meloneras’ à la carte restaurants; another being the Spanish offering, Español. In Krystal, it is all-purpose mix cuisine, therefore Lea & Perrins created an appearance with cherry and honey in diverse dishes, together with the kitchen not just going light on the salt. Ever-attentive waiter Genaro created our five-year-old feel at home with a few child-friendly pizza.
We did not go to any of the 3 pubs, whose live audio performances include shows such as Ultimate Divas, including tributes to the likes of The Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, and Shakira. Heaters were positioned beside the outside tables at breakfast, and it requires a while to heat up to the mid-20s. Highlights were bread bread, fruit juices that you can find being ready before your own eyes, and charcuterie you would associate more with a food hall compared to a resort.
