Dutch Masters Amsterdam

At the core of the canal district, six minutes’ walk from the Rijksmuseum, also about 15 minutes in the Dam. The Spiegelkwartier antiques and arts quarter is on the doorstep, and Centraal Station is a 10-minute tram journey off.

Style & personality

Luxurious canal-house flats, each individually decorated in the style of a Dutch artist — by the greats such as Vermeer, Rembrandt and Van Gogh, through moderns (Mondrian and de Kooning) to Dutch rock and roll celebrity and painter Herman Brood. Here and there stage features stay from the tasteful 17th-century construction, which fronts on a grand canal, and in the rear overlooks a gorgeous formal garden, uncontrolled with tulips in the spring (The Bosch and Van Gogh flats have direct garden access).

Service & amenities

The home is conducted from an office right across the canal (there is not any reception desk at the construction), and there’s a cleaner-caretaker on site throughout the week. Staff are on call for advice and help, and you are given detailed information on where to go and how to get about. There is no onsite restaurant or bar.

The décor in every apartment is motivated by the work of a specific artist. Reproductions of stated artist’s work hangs on the walls — even though from the Karel Appel, Herman Brood as well as the Mondrian flats you’ll see an original. Design and color scheme will also be inspired by the artist in question: warm colors, gold and damask in Vermeer; daring primaries, white and powerful traces in Mondrian.

Bedrooms are modest. A conscious decision was made to provide space priority into living spaces, and here there is ample space, with dining room tables and comfy furniture. Kitchens are extremely well-equipped with dishwasher, an oven-microwave and four-plate induction hob, and ample cutlery and crockery. Bathrooms are usually fairly spacious (for Amsterdam), and every flat features a washer/dryer.

Food & beverage

There are not any onsite dining amenities, though lots of cafés and restaurants within easy walking distance. A folder in the area gives great, well-considered restaurant recommendations, in addition to a few home-delivery services.
