Mayleko Lodge Gondar
Place in farmland (allotments shape portion of this website), with amazing views throughout the landscape, Mayleko is tranquil, although Gondar’s Theodros airport is only a few minutes off (shuttle service within the room cost) and the town of Gondar, famous for its rugged castles of King Fasilides, is a 15minute drive. Airplane noise isn’t a issue.
Style & personality
Mayleko has a very natural feel, using all the huts that house bedrooms and baths made from natural, local, renewable materials. There’s a tranquil swimming pool, and a path leads to the raised restaurant and pub, with a broad terrace ideal for carrying in fabulous sunsets. The restaurant has the feel of a Tuscan trattoria and produces a magical place in which to dine, and you will find darts, chess and backgammon to keep you entertained.
Service & amenities
The lodge is managed by Netsanet, a former English instructor, and possessed by a hotelier by Addis Ababa known as Ethiopia. An individual can tell she’s personality. There’s restricted Wi-Fi, not dependable, at the reception area.
Bedrooms and baths are placed in individual huts made from natural, sustainable materials, simple but elegant, with white walls, bamboo ceilings and fairly gauze drapes at four sets of French windows into a patio and yard. They’ve charm, and are extremely calm. The typical little bar of soap along with miniature bottle of shampoo is all that is available so far as toiletries in the bathrooms, some with bathrooms, other people with showers.
Food & beverage
A true joy: the, seasoned chef knows how to cook Italian food using genuine flair (and there’s not anything whatsoever wrong with Ethiopian Rift Valley red wines, accessible anywhere, to accompany). Breakfast also is good, with a menu of scrambled eggs served with various accompaniments such as veggies, exceptional breads and tasty Ethiopian coffee.
