Kuriftu Resort and Spa Bahir Dar

Location

The cause of heading into Bahar Dar, a town of broad, palm coastal paths, is spread out before you Kuriftu: tranquil Lake Tana, source of the Blue Nile, with its monasteries and teeming birdlife. The resort is situated just off one of the primary coastal streets leading to the city center, and street noise can be troublesome for a number of rooms; people overlooking the pool or the lake are greatest and those nearest to the street ought to be avoided.

Design & personality

Much use is made of dark wood, rock and bougainvillea-covered thatch to provide an ethnic feel, emphasised by vibrant African American artworks on the walls. The lobby/reception place is welcoming but the actual attraction is that the wrought iron pool, around which chambers are grouped along with the lakeside patio outside. The pool is a favorite with NGOs therefore that it’s a good idea to tote one of those sunloungers, each having a thatched parasol, early in the morning there are not always enough to go around.

Service & facilities

In addition to the swimming pool, Kuriftu includes a small spa, and 2 spa treatments per room, such as a foot massage, are contained in the purchase price. There’s trusted Wi-Fi at the lobby. Staff waver between useful and unengaged.

Rooms

The bedrooms, both on the floor or the first floor, accessed by a flight of stone steps, are large and superbly decorated, some with four posters, with fairly mosaic-tiled shower rooms. You need to ask one using a pond or pool view at no additional cost: greatest are amounts 107 to 112.

Food & beverage

Dinner is served at a big and somewhat soulless dining space, with a pub at one side and the food is served buffet style or by a menu of Italian and Ethiopian alternatives. Breakfast is rather unimaginative: adhere into the staple of scrambled eggs.

Value for money

Double rooms from140, half board. Provided that you are not bothered by street sound in your bedroom and you’re able to contact a sun lounger by the pool, the cost is fair, otherwise it might appear steep.
