St. Joseph’s Dubrovnik
At a calm stone side road away Stradun, the main thoroughfare through the old city – so there is no traffic noise, only the hourly church bells and intermittent passers-by. Each of the main sights and restaurants lie within a 10-minute stroll, and Banje beach is right beyond the city walls.
Style & personality
The building underwent a yearlong restoration job to reestablish its aristocratic past, with complete regard for the current structure and authentic wood and stone features. While you’re here you will be well cared for and even somewhat spoilt, and feel just as unique as the construction.
Service & amenities
You will get a warm welcome from the family team who run and own St Joseph’s. They arise from the area, but spent several years working in finance in London, so that they understand what British guests anticipate, while also having the ability to provide firsthand insights to Croatian customs and heritage. They are also a nice supply of personalised regional recommendations.
There are two bedrooms that are tiled, combining hardwood flooring, beamed ceilings and a few exposed stonework. The décor is mainly white, with cloths in earthy colors of beige and cream, and the furnishing is up-market, with Baroque references – crystal figurines, silver candlesticks and sumptuous armchairs. Expect super comfy bedrooms, a slick marble bath, plus a different kitchenette.
Food & beverage
You’re going to be treated to a very indulgent breakfast, brought to a room with a maid. This starts with an uplifting organic smoothie, followed by a platter of seasonal fruit (peeled and chopped), freshly-baked croissants and yummy bite-sized sweet and sweet filo-pastry pies, plus coffee or tea. And breakfasting from the solitude of your living space makes it super intimate.
