Location

On the southern coast of Lago General Carrera, the biggest lake in Chile, with uninterrupted views throughout the lake into the mountains and glaciers of the Northern Patagonia ice fields. Located alongside the Carretera Austral, it is 100km (62 miles) from Chile Chico, the nearest main city; the Marble Caves are about a one-hour driveway north; and also the closest airport, Balmaceda, is a five to five six-hour push off.

Style & personality

The reception and restaurant are placed in a wooden lodge with a mostly glass frontage, set one of the trees over the lake. A broad, elevated terrace with rattan easy chairs and chunky wooden tables provides views across the lake — and also the ideal location to capture Wi-Fi sign. Indoors, person dining tables, a wood burning stove, walls adorned with photographic prints of the area, and sofas facing the flame supply a comfy, earthy setting.

Service & amenities

Owned and run by Dutch Stephan and his Chilean wife Carolina, support is completely centred around the person. The few go out of the way to assist sort any problems their guests may have, such as the fishermen whose car got stuck in sand from the lake — Stephan ordered a tow truck to pull them out. Guests may get a selection of amenities from horseback riding and trekking into a jet boat throughout the lake or glacier walking.

Rooms

Rooms have the kind you can happily move into eternally. Person wood cottages with private terraces are scattered around the coast of this lake, with sufficient space in between each to afford maximum privacy, and expansive views across the lake into the mountains and glaciers beyond. Décor is minimal, allowing the scene past the image windows to steal the glory. A wood-burning stove offers warmth and romance while bedrooms facing the opinion and are tender, comfy and warm. The big en-suites have sexy, strong showers and all rooms have coffee and tea making facilities. Superior rooms have small kitchenettes.

Food & beverage

Food is extremely good, in the self-service breakfast including fresh fruits and legumes, cereals, homemade cakes and eggs to order; into the evening meal that utilizes organic vegetables and fruits in the garden and creates top-notch cuisine featuring traditional Chilean and Peruvian dishes for example sopaipillas with pebre (pumpkin pastries served using a kind of dinner), pastel de choclo (corn and beef casserole) and possibly the best pisco sours on the Carretera Austral. Whether there are sufficient guests, a barbecue is held on the patio including prime meat cuts.

Value for cash

Standard rooms out of US$130 (#99) through the entire year, which runs from October 1 to May 1. Breakfast is included (although not VAT, that can be exempt for overseas visitors). Wi-Fi is offered from the main lodge just and indicate is unreliable.
