Qualia Hamilton Island
Qualia is nestled on the northernmost point of Hamilton Island, the biggest island in The Whitsundays. Occupying a personal beachfront, do not expect to see anything but glorious bushland and uninterrupted expanses of glittering blue water. Perched at the suggestion of this World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef, home to the world’s biggest coral reef ecosystem, Qualia is perfectly placed to explore the island by ship or air.
Style & personality
Every pavilion faces The Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands and is cradled by the rugged all-natural bushland. Handcrafted from imported and local stone and wood, the buildings exist in harmony with the surroundings while the insides are finished with materials inspired by the local eco system.
Service & amenities
From the minute they greet you with warm water and also refresher towels in Hamilton Island airport, Qualia employees are attentive, personable and armed with information regarding the hotel and everything to do on the island. World-class amenities include a choice of 2 swimming pools, spa therapies, morning yoga classes, two restaurants, in room diningroom, library and gym. Guests can also be provided use of a personal golf buggy to earn their way round the hotel and the island, so you will feel as though you’re at a Bond film half of the time.
I remained from the Windward Pavilion, a grand north-facing private villa which boasts floor to ceiling glass windows, a living area, private deck, plunge pool and views of this Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands from each area. The toilet is enormous and pristine with conveniences by high-end Australian manufacturer Aesop. The only niggle is that the magnificent but bemusing tub – if you work out the way to empty it, please allow me to know.
Food & beverage
There are two restaurants in Qualia, Long Pavilion and Pebble Beach. Fine dining in Long Pavilion presents the freshest local produce artfully prepared by Executive Chef Ali Waddell. Breakfast can also be served here and can be a richly presented continental buffet and a la carte menu. Pebble Beach is a fantastic lunchtime alternative, dine poolside or at home, overlooking the Coral Sea for a few sumptuous oysters along with a breaking club sandwich, washed down using a Negroni or 2.
