San Jerónimo 243/257, Córdoba, Argentina

Córdoba will be an industrial city and a financial centre, but it’s the heart of a college town. Three historic universities flank the Jesuit Block, a magnificent showcase of Latin American baroque architecture. Just a few minutes away is the home that was a store, a residence and a school before getting the Azur Real Hotel Boutique, after a deep renovation.

The lobby creates a nod to the building’s past, with its bricks in sight and a rock fireplace facing a contemporary and inviting sofa bed, a sign of the nice service that awaits you inside. Fourteen open rooms are offered: by the standard, using a design on two levels and a cozy bedroom with flat screen TV at the upper, to the luxury, where a divan presides over a living room decorated with dark wood and leather furniture. Some rooms have a balcony, and although it’s true that the exteriors provide views of the Jesuit Block, the tranquility offered by the rooms with views of the interior courtyard isn’t bad.

The house might be romantic, but the spacious common areas, two restaurants and a wooden terrace on the top floor, give a feeling of spaciousness. The Azur Real restaurant offers a menu of traditional Peruvian specialties with Southeast Asian influence while the Deli is a sort of traditional still life in the fashion of this mid-20th century.
